In a social climate where good and evil are sometimes confused, a strong communicator should provide clarity that leads an audience to the right conclusion.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro did just that when he and others announced a suspect’s arrest in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The suspect was apprehended at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s after a person in the restaurant recognized him and called police.
In the eyes of some on social media, the suspect had transformed into a mythical hero for allegedly killing a major figure in the unpopular healthcare insurance industry. But Shapiro wasted no words in combating that perception, as you will see in the clip below.
It’s disconcerting to many of us that Shapiro would even have to address the suspect’s “hero status.” But given some of the social media reaction to the murder, we applaud Shapiro’s forthright and clear message that the suspect is not a hero.
The governor left no doubt where he stood. His remarks are an example for all of us to follow in situations where clear messaging is required.
